Duties

As a DIRECTOR OF INSPECTIONS, GS-1801-12, you will serve as the focal point for interpreting, developing, and implementing Air Force inspection policy and wing-level long-range strategic plans. Provides direction and oversight of internal and external inspections, audits, evaluations, reviews, exercises, and analyses to determine unit effectiveness and efficiency. Ensures operational, contingency, and mobilization plans adhere to policy and direct the effective use of wing resources.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with skill in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately; knowledge of applicable laws, directives, regulations, policies, and procedures; skill in interpersonal communications, empathy, and effective listening; ability to organize thoughts, research materials, and manage case projects; skill in comprehending and interpreting directives and laws; ability to enunciate without impediment of speech that would interfere or prohibit effective communications; ability to write reports and presentation formats; and ability to communicate -orally and in writing- clearly and effectively.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. Knowledge or experience of an administrative nature, which involves the exercise of analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and personal responsibility, and application of a substantial body of knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices applicable to one or more fields of administration or management. Experience with supervising, leading or performing inspection, investigation, enforcement, or compliance work. Knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) policies and the regulations of the Department of the Army, Department of the Air Force, and the National Guard Bureau related to record-keeping, inspection, investigative techniques, and general office practices.

Additional Conditions of Employment:

This position requires a secret security clearance; the incumbent of this position must obtain and maintain a secret Clearance. Work may require access to higher classified information. Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance within one year of appointment.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.?

This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.? This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment. Note: The caveat is that the States, Territories, and the District of Columbia cannot drug test until a drug free workplace policy has been established and approved by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.?

IAW AF guidance, incumbent must complete the wing Inspector General Training Course Inspections (IGTC-I) within 180 days of appointment; must complete Inspector General Training Course Complaints Resolution (IGTC-Q) within 180 days of appointment; and IG appointees for nuclear-capable units will complete the USAF Nuclear Inspector Course within 180 days of assignment. Successful completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoD, AF, and National Guard Bureau regulations. Recommend completion of the NGB/IG Advanced Course within one year of appointment.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. Head of Agency requests to exceed 14 days in a calendar year must be approved in advance by the National Guard, Director of Manpower and Personnel (NGB-J1).

Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates or hard to fill positions. TAG is final approval authority for any incentive requests.

Relocation costs are authorized subject to provisions of the Joint Travel Regulation and an agency determination that a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is in the Government's best interest.

Superior Qualifications and Special Needs Pay-setting Authority may be considered for this position. TAG is final approval authority for incentive programs (applicable to newly appointed federal employees or those with a 90 day break in service).
