Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Headquarters Space Force Command (HQSF) at The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia is searching for a Logistics and Sustainment Division Chief, S4O (NH-0343-04, GS 14/15 equivalent).

Description:
As the principal logistics advisor to HQSF/S4, you will direct a premier team of logistics professionals to oversee the Space Force's global logistics & sustainment enterprise. We are seeking a strategic-to-tactical leader - someone who can set direction at the highest level and execute at the point of need. A changemaker by nature, this leader moves at the speed of relevance, thrives and is energized in a high-ops-tempo environment, energized by competing priorities, tight timelines and rapid cycles of decision-making. This individual will drive transformation across the Space Force logistics and sustainment enterprise, modernizing how the service equips and sustains the force for tomorrow's missions. The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical depth and strategic breadth, experience leading weapons system sustainment reviews and making weapons system infrastructure investment decisions, developing data-driven decision tools, paired with an appetite for pioneering new frontiers like on-orbit logistics. A background spanning traditional life-cycle logistics and emerging space sustainment concepts is highly valued, as is a demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities before they become mission risks.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience leading weapon system sustainment or life-cycle management, with direct involvement in weapons system reviews or equivalent sustainment health assessments. Possesses familiarity with weapons system infrastructure and sustainment planning. Experience building or leading data integration initiatives to develop a common operating picture or enterprise analytics capability. Direct exposure to supply chain risk management, ideally including single-point-of-failure analysis, foreign dependency mapping or industrial base vulnerability assessments. Track record of leading large-scale organizational transformation, not just participating in it. Bachelor's degree required (engineering, logistics, supply chain management, systems engineering or related technical field); advanced degree preferred (MBA, MS Logistics/Systems Engineering or national security focused). Technical Skills: data analytics fluency - comfortable directing the build of dashboards and predictive sustainment tools; working knowledge of supply chain risk frameworks; familiarity with emerging on-orbit servicing, assembly and manufacturing concepts and programs. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 10 years of progressive, senior-level leadership experience directing complex logistics and sustainment operations. They must demonstrate a commanding track record of developing logistics support for operational plans, navigating contested-environment sustainment, and executing multi-million-dollar defense budgets through the PPBE/POM cycle. A proven history of leading cohesive military and civilian teams and integrating logistics efforts with enterprise partners is essential. A deep working knowledge of DoD financial guidelines is required. Professional credentials and Defense Life Cycle Logistics certifications are highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Expertise in Joint Logistics Planning: Expert knowledge of joint and service logistics doctrine, theories, and principles, with the demonstrated skill to apply this knowledge to the Joint Operation Planning Process (JOPP). The ability to develop and integrate detailed sustainment concepts into strategic and operational-level plans (OPLANs/CONPLANs) and policy.
2. Executive Leadership and Personnel Management: Skill in leading, managing, and mentoring a diverse organization of military and civilian personnel. This includes the ability to set strategic direction, manage organizational resources, and develop a workforce to effectively meet the command's long-term logistics and sustainment requirements.
3. Skill in Logistics Resource Management: Comprehensive skill in managing the fiscal, materiel, and contracting aspects of a logistics enterprise. This includes deep knowledge of the DoD's PPBE process, supply chain management, property accountability regulations.
4. Ability to Synchronize Multi-Domain Logistics: Ability to direct and synchronize complex, interrelated logistics functions (e.g., distribution, maintenance, engineering, and supply) across a joint, multi-domain environment. This includes the ability to de-conflict priorities and integrate capabilities to ensure a unified and resilient sustainment posture.
5. Skill in Data-Driven Sustainment Analysis: Skill in analyzing logistics data and readiness metrics to assess operational risk, determine sustainment feasibility, and develop data-driven Courses of Action (COAs).
