Summary

This position is located at Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General, Inspector General. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for supporting the work of the OIG within the Office of Information Technology. Tasks include planning and executing data and analytical studies of HUD Program areas, developing scripts, algorithms and models, and performing data management functions.

Duties

As a Data Scientist, you will:

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14:

  • Perform sensitive duties and assignments of special importance to the IG and support HUD OIG mission components with data and trends analysis and provide statistical analysis of individual component challenges and needs.
  • Optimize joint production, development and training efforts and project design, with the ability to articulate and implement best practices for machine learning and AI with focus on automation, productization, reusability and modularity, across modern data tools
  • Provide highly skilled and authoritative expertise to all levels of OIG and the Director in collaborating with partners across government in relation to OIG work.
  • Advise on work efforts and makes recommendation to resolve operation problems by influencing, motivating, or negotiating with individuals or groups where there is conflict to accept changes in established procedures, and to write succinct technical reports in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner and to present findings to varied audiences who may not be technical experts in statistics or data analysis.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as the following:
-Collaborates with staff in creating advanced analytic products, such as numerical and statistical analyses or AI algorithms.
AND
-Researches and develops statistical learning models for data analysis and advancing analytic methodologies.
AND
-Experience using and delivering both supervised and unsupervised modeling to make business decisions and forecasting outcomes for customer and/or stakeholders.

Education

To be qualified for this position, you must meet the basic educational and/or work experience requirements for Data Scientist positions in the federal government. These requirements are:

A) A degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
B) A combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours/45 quarter hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.
