Summary

This position is located at Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Consumer Response and Education Division, Office of Consumer Response. This role serves as subject matter expert in leading the development and maintenance of data reporting applications and custom toolsets supporting data reporting, data management, data engineering, business intelligence, data science, and machine learning efforts, and building methodological foundations for product features or functionalities.

Duties

This is a time-limited Fellowship position located in the Consumer Response and Education (CRE) Division, Office of Consumer Response. Consumer Response hears directly from consumers about the challenges they face in the marketplace, answers their inquiries about consumer financial products and services, brings their concerns to the attention of companies, and assists in addressing their complaints. Consumer Response also researches complaints and consumer behavior to help the Bureau in its work to regulate consumer financial products and services under existing federal consumer financial laws, enforce those laws judiciously, and educate and empower consumers to make better informed financial decisions.


As a Data and Reporting Product Engineer Fellow, you will:

  • Lead development and maintenance of custom data reporting and business intelligence applications and supporting data sources through their product lifecycles.
  • Lead establishment of data science and machine learning methodology baselines in related data reporting and business intelligence application and project features or functionalities.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues in data reporting application operation and product lines, including quality, accessibility, stability, and user experience, etc.
  • Translate project requirements and information needs to develop technical implementation based on different application and data analytics tools / technologies, including Python, R, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, SQL, application programming interface (API), and Cloud services., etc.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the announcement's closing date.


Specialized Experience: For the CN-53, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-52 grade level in the Federal service. (For qualification purposes, the CN-52 is broadly equivalent to the GS-12). Specialized Experience for this position includes:
  • Leading development and maintenance of data analytics and reporting applications through their product lifecycle, utilizing multiple tools and technologies, including Python, R, HTML/CSS/JavaScript and their related industry libraries, as well as applicable Application Programming Interface (API), and Cloud services; AND
  • Assisting in data engineering and data source development efforts to support data analytics and reporting applications and business intelligence reporting projects; AND
  • Assisting in leading engagement effort and executing communication strategies to promote the team's data analytics and reporting applications and producing technical documentation as directed; AND
  • Leading development in applying machine learning algorithms, statistical models, and data science driven methodologies, including predictive modeling, natural language processing, and deep learning to solve complex data and reporting product challenges.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
