You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Deckhand Leader without more than normal supervision ???????which is described as: Connecting towing or dredging operations, channel patrol and maintenance of aids to navigation and revetment construction operations, i.e. handles and fastens lines to moor boats, barges and other floating craft, to secure other craft coming along side, and/or in making up and breaking us of tows. Use capstans, winches, ratchets, and other deck equipment as required in accomplishing work. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)
- Physical Efforts: Substantial physical effort is required in the handling of heavy cables, equipment and machinery. May lift up to 50 pounds or more. Work may involve long periods of standing, lifting, climbing, and walking.
- Work Conditions: Works inside and outside under all weather conditions. Subject to failing overboard and hazards attending moving plant. Subject to splashing and slippery decks. Uses hand tools characteristic of indicated duties.
