Summary

About the Position: This is a full-time civilian faculty position with an initial term of 3 years, the first of which may be a trial period. Reappointments may occur in up to five-year increments thereafter, subject to performance and availability of funding. Academic rank and salary will be based on the selectee's academic credentials, experience, and professional accomplishment.

Duties

  • Serve as the principal deputy to the Provost. Oversees implementation of all USAWC academic policies.
  • Supervise and manage the Office of Institutional Assessment and Center for Executive Communications.
  • Responsible for all accreditation activities of the USAWC and serves as liaison officer to three distinct military and civilian accrediting bodies.
  • Manage execution of civilian faculty hiring and management system, to include academic promotions.
  • Serve as Alternate Designated Federal Official for the USAWC Board of Visitors. Plans and executes semiannual meetings.
  • Formulate and implement assessment policy and annual assessment strategy that explores all relevant components of the USAWC's educational mission and institutional support. Coordinates assessment actions across USAWC enterprise.
  • Produce reports and recommendations that influence educational policies of the USAWC, Army, Joint Force, and DoD. Chairs the USAWC Assessment Working Group and advises the Academic Board.
  • Serve as the institution's Human Protection Administrator.
  • Teach, conduct research, and provide service in accordance with institutional policies

This is a term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years. Appointment may be extended in one- to five-year increments thereafter. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above, applicants will be rated on the following:

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

  1. PhD or other terminal degree in a discipline relevant to the USAWC educational mission, e.g., history, political science, management, international relations/studies, etc. is preferred.
  2. Demonstrated experience overseeing accreditation programs, ensuring compliance with institutional standards and regulations. Familiarity with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education's Standards for Accreditation and Requirements for Affiliation and/or the Officer Professional Military Education Policy (CJCSI 1800.01G) is desirable.
  3. Proven ability to conduct academic assessments and institutional research with a strong foundation in statistics and research design. Skilled in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to support decision-making and institutional improvement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to teaching at the graduate level.
  5. Knowledge of increasing academic leadership, e.g., Course director, program director, department chair, and/or supervision of military and/or civilian employees.
  6. Demonstrated ability with designing, assessing, and updating academic policy.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams, including faculty, students, administrators, and staff.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work semi-independently, as well as manage time and projects efficiently and effectively.
  9. Ability to tell stories using visual data tools to present data clearly to non-technical audiences.
