Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Army Health Clinic Family Medicine Service, Olympia Washington.

Duties

  • Perform anthropometric measurements as needed to assess nutritional status such as waist circumference and body fat analysis.
  • Assess health and nutrition history.
  • Determine optimal medical nutrition therapy utilizing a four-step nutrition care process: (1) nutrition assessment; (2) nutrition diagnosis; (3)nutrition intervention; and (4) nutrition monitoring and evaluation.
  • Manage patient care through evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Develop individualized wellness plans based on comprehensive risk-factors.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position requires immunization screening to determine inoculation for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap), Hepatitis B series, Chickenpox titer and skin test screening for Tuberculosis (TB).
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Dietitian:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

OR

Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for dietitians or nutritionists.

OR

Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

GS-11
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes providing nutrition services, ordering laboratory tests, and counseling or educating patients or staff on nutrition topics.

OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
