Job Summary
The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.
This position serves as the Director, Furnishings and plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Furnishings Department. The Furnishings Department is responsible for building, repairing and finishing furniture and installing carpet and draperies in the House offices. The Furnishings Department includes four shops: The Cabinet/Framing Shop, the Carpet Shop, the Upholstery/Drapery Shop, and the Finishing/Locksmith Shop.
This position has day-to-day supervisory responsibilities.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, direction, and coordination of all aspects of Furnishings operations (including the cabinet, framing, carpet, drapery, finishing, locksmith, and upholstery shops) for the House in an efficient and effective manner that result in providing consistent and relevant Furnishings services to stakeholders and customers.
- Contributes fully to the development of the Department strategy across all areas.
- Provides overall control for the Department’s services provided and takes ultimate responsibility for the leadership, management, and supervision of all aspects of office operations, policies, procedures, and processes.
- Assesses long-term departmental needs and develops strategic plans to address growth and service enhancements.
- Develops, monitors, documents, and implements workplace policies, standards, procedures, practices, processes, work aids/guidelines, communications programs, and a system of internal controls; ensures policy and procedure requirements are met.
- Plans, manages, implements, and tracks Furnishings projects, including complicated projects requiring cross-functional/cross-organizational participation e.g., Committee Room Renovations; obtains and maintains project support from key stakeholders.
- Promotes employee morale, satisfaction, and motivation.
- Ensures subordinate supervisors are efficiently utilizing staff, maximizing resources, and developing subordinates to their fullest potential.
- Monitors all work and projects to ensure a high standard of quality and timeliness.
- Performs other official duties as assigned.
