Duties

  • Ensure soldiers, reservists, authorized civilians, and family members are afforded religious education programs to allow them to exercise their religious beliefs regardless of faith group.
  • Advise Garrison Chaplain and senior faith group Chaplain on small or medium installations Religious Education and youth programs.
  • Recruit and train all staff, contractors and volunteers involved with religious education and youth ministry programs
  • Assess resources to meet the needs of religious education programming.

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Temporary Travel (TDY) may be required up to 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a C-NACI (Child Care Background).
  • Position may require working nights, holidays, and weekends in support of related mission requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. The Religious Education Services GS-1701 occupational series has specific educational requirements which apply to all positions. Education above the high school level must have been completed in a U.S. college, university, or other educational institution that has been accredited by one of the accrediting agencies or associations recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.

Basic Education Minimum Qualifications:

A. Master of Religious Education degree or its equivalent from an accredited graduate school. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

B. Master's degree in any discipline other than religious education which includes a minimum of 24 documented credits in religious education (or spiritual formation). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

AND

Specialized experience: 2 years of documented professional experience leading a religion-based education program.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Planning and Evaluating
