Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at the Pentagon, Arlington VA is searching for a Director of Protocol to support HQSF DSP (NH-0301-04, GS-14/15 Equivalent).

Description:

This high-visibility role places you at the epicenter of national defense-inside the Pentagon-supporting the Space Force Headquarters. As a critical member of our team, you will supervise the HQSF Protocol office in a dynamic, mission-essential environment where your daily impact shapes the future of space power.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate brings a distinguished background in senior-level Department of the Air Force (DAF) protocol, characterized by a proven ability to establish, develop, and maintain highly effective working relationships across the White House, the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the military services, the Military District of Washington (MDW), the Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), and Space Staff Directorates. Serving as a key representative for the Office of the Chief of Space Operations (OCSO), they will confidently interface at higher organizational levels and participate in key conferences with DAF, JCS, SecAF, and partner agencies. This role requires exceptional coordination skills to align diverse parties during high-stakes meetings and conferences regarding protocol, ceremonies, and special events. Additionally, the candidate must be skilled in designing and implementing comprehensive protocol policies-spanning precedence, honors, flags, distinguished visitors, gifts, funding, and ethics-while ensuring strict compliance with U.S. Code, Department regulations, and statutory mandates.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Mastery of development, preparation, coordination, staffing, and implementing policies, procedures, programs, and directives across a broad spectrum of agencies and subject matters.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of logistics management principles, concepts, policies and regulations.
3. Skilled in stratifying resources against approved programs; to plan, present, and execute budgets; to analyze budget impacts on programs; and to forecast long-term funding requirements; Proficient in planning and organizing work and maintaining good working relationships.
4. Expert ability to review, analyze, and evaluate logistics management programs and activities; Expert ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
5. Authoritative knowledge of organizing and leading special study teams and task forces with members from different organizations, commands, and services; Authoritative knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and economic usage to effectively complete assignments.
6. Ability to identify problems and develop innovative solutions; Ability to gather, analyze, organize, and present data and supporting analyses; Ability to identify, analyze, and translate complex information, make appropriate judgments, and evaluate options concerning base readiness.

  • Must be a U.S Citizen.
  • PCS / Relocation is available.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI security clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • May be required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"
  • Subject to TDY 30 days per year.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing
