Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following:
1) Utilizing a variety of information systems and/or software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, automated research tools, database applications, and the Internet;
2) Researching, gathering, organizing, and maintaining information;
3) Compiling data or information from files and for use in reports;
4) Communicating effectively through both written and spoken form; and
5) Preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents; maintaining office records, keeping a calendar and informing others of deadlines and other important dates; and similar clerical support work within an organization.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
