This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
This position requires exposure to high noise levels.

Physical Demands
Moderate physical effort. Incumbent will frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally will lift and carry items up to 100 pounds for 10 feet with assistance. Requires standing and repeated kneeling, bending, crouching, and stooping. Reaches above shoulders to equipment. Good hearing is required to hear instructions under noisy conditions, although a hearing aid is permitted. Must have full use of both arms and legs to climb ladders. Work requires good eyesight, hand-eye coordination, and hand and finger dexterity. Color discrimination is required to distinguish color-coded circuits and read blueprints.
Working Conditions
Hazards encountered in this rating are not unusual, except for furnace explosions, which happen occasionally due to the nature of the fuel being burned. Employee could be injured by falling, or from bumping into overhead pipes or beams. There's danger of cuts, bums, broken bones, and/or bruises. Heating plants may contain asbestos insulation and lead paint. Job site may include exposure to hazardous equipment, pumps, air compressors, fans, energized electrical equipment, sharp edges, and high pressure boilers, valves and piping. Employee could be exposed to potential toxic fumes, boiler gasses, and chemical agents used for boiler water and steam treatment. The hazards are always present and are part of normal working conditions associated with steam production operations. Works indoors 85% of the time and outdoors 15% of the time. Work involves uncomfortable conditions such as excessive heat, dry atmospheric conditions, constant noise from machinery, dust, dirt, and soot. There is some danger of entanglement in moving machinery or when climbing ladders outside plants on roof and stacks in cold weather and icy conditions.
