In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to perform the work of an
Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic with little or no supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Extensive knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems to understand and predict the progressive effects of malfunctions throughout the interrelated units, (e.g., trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be changed or adjusted to compensate).
2. Thorough knowledge of the application of electronic theories and practices to one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, power control, environmental, inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems.
3. Broad knowledge of radar, digital or analog computers, digital display devices, environmental operation, etc., and specific knowledge of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system. Knowledge of mathematics including algebra and trigonometric functions to adapt standard formulas to the specific requirements of the integrated system.
4. Skill in the set up and operation of computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE) and test stands, oscilloscopes (dual trace, storage, digitized), spectrum, network and distortion analyzers, frequency counters, and signal generators; in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the function and interconnections of components, assemblies, subassemblies, and connecting cable/fiber-optics harness; and in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions.
5. Skill in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electronic integrated systems where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of a large number of circuits and functions, and the interaction of subsystems which create malfunctions.
6. Skill in interpreting complex drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete integrated systems to recognize the functions and interconnections of subsystems to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be changed or adjusted to compensate.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
- May be required to fly in military or contract aircraft for TDY maintenance or training, in accordance with the JTRs.
- Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA).
- The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases). Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, and Low Observable (LO). Subject to eye damage due to exposure to LASERs. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others. Working alone.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
