THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This position is for a Electronic Measurement Equipment Mechanic, Position Description Number D1201000 located at the CSMS - North in Atlanta, Georgia.

This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership.

Duties

As a Electronic Measurement Equipment Mechanic, WG-2602-11, you will:

Calibrate and repair TMDE within support capability and authority including various levels of calibration as designated in technical bulletins, manuals, etc. Perform functional electronic, physical, and radioactive testing involving interpretation and analysis of measurement data, in accordance with cyclic inspection requirements. Align, troubleshoot, test, inspect, repair, modify, calibrate and certify precision measurement equipment such as multimeters, microwave equipment, oscilloscopes, temperature analyzers, mercurial barometers, gage blocks and micrometer caliper dimensional equipment, digital voltmeters, signal generators, torque wrenches, pressure gauges, torque testers, weight scales, electronic counters, radiation monitors, radix calibrators, and radiation dosimeters. Analyze and isolate component malfunctions; calculate and determine tolerances; and perform tests and calibrations in accordance with instructions, which are often vague and incomplete, and may require the preparation of diagrams and instructions to facilitate the calibration action.

Set up system test sets and various types of test equipment such as frequency meters, standing wave ratio meters, radio frequency (RF) power meters, function/ arbitrary waveform generator, distortion analyzers, time frequency work stations, oscillators, voltmeters, electronic counters, oscilloscopes, attenuators, decade resistors and capacitors, signal generators, stroboscope, tachometers, pneumatic and hydraulic pressure standards and other physical and electronic tests. Diagnose equipment, make repairs, and replace defective parts/components such as integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, electronic condition coils, radiation detector boards/circuits, crystals, transistors, tubes, transformers, condensers, diodes, relays potentiometers, and related components.

Following repair, test by applying signals in known amplitude and wave shape into oscilloscopes to observe wave pattern. Isolate faults by taking measurements and comparisons in voltage, amperage, ohms, henries, power factor, watts, temperature, humidity, microns, foot-pounds, decibels, sensitivity, noise, stability, Voltage Standard Wave Ratio (VSWR), impedance, phase, absolute pressure, time intervals, displacement, flow rate, etc., to determine performance of equipment. If signal is distorted, trace it through electronic stages to locate malfunctioning part. Check sweep rate by feeding known signal to an oscilloscope and observing wave pattern to correct shape and size. Operate equipment to complete range checking for proper operation of positioning controls. Adjust with trimmer potentiometers; and if calibration is still not possible, add or remove sufficient resistance to permit balancing of circuit. As needed, contact the using organization to obtain information concerning the nature of the malfunction. Use equipment schematics to analyze circuits by preparing block diagram showing major components such as amplifiers, filters, oscillators and indicators.

Determine purpose in operation characteristics of each major section. Refer to technical manuals and manufactures specifications to obtain information on operation characteristics of circuit components such as integrated circuits, microprocessors, decoders, latching networks, notch filters, logics, controllers, programmable gain amplifiers, digital displays, transistors, tubes, transformers, coils, relays, motors, and similar devices. Disassemble, clean and inspect parts such as printed circuit boards, resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, relays, chambers, cables, and wiring for evidence or wear or malfunction. Repair and/or replace parts as required. Use special test devices and radioactive samples or other calibrated sources. Test equipment for sensitivity and correct operation. Observe necessary precautions as stipulated in operational repair manuals. Make radiation calculations/readings at various distances from the standard ensuring radiation equipment is operating in specified parameters. Perform contamination/radiation surveys on radiation equipment to control/eliminate radiation leakage/contamination.

Complete necessary Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS), calibration, radiation reports and other records and forms on work completed. Ensure maximum number of weapons systems are operationally ready. Use TMDE Integrated Maintenance Management Systems (TIMMS) for all supported equipment to track, turn-in, repair, calibrate, and return to the end user in a timely fashion to prevent work stoppages. Furnish technical data to the supervisor for inclusion in reports as well as recommending equipment improvement and solutions for unusual problems related to testing and the use of precision TMDE.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

General Experience: Must possess experience which demonstrates a working knowledge of electronic principles involved in the generation and measurement of such elements as voltage, current, impedance, capacitance, frequency, and inductance. Experience in the use of various precision measurement instruments and standards.

Specialized Experience: Candidate must have 36 months specialized experience with basic application of operating principles such as the production and utilization of oscillations over a broad range of frequencies; signal and waveform behavior, distortion, and amplification; pulse, trigger, and synchronization techniques; digital/analog processing and data conversion techniques; and a variety of display and indication methods. Experience in tracing signals and voltage paths, and skilled in the analysis of waveform characteristics such as timing, duration, frequency, and phasing. Originates test set-ups to isolate malfunctions and check performance characteristics of special or unique test panels or mockups. Experience in interpreting and applying a variety of technical electronic information such as schematic symbols, mathematical expressions and formulas, calibration procedures, and other reference materials. Experience in applying established techniques and methods of repair, testing, alignment, and calibration of equipment, which serves as test equipment or precision measurement standards. Experience in utilizing electronic circuits to measure electronic or electrical quantities to determine the performance characteristics and accuracy of other instruments and equipment.

Physical Effort: Work is performed in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods, requiring frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works in cramped or awkward positions, on top of and under equipment. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying, or sitting. Frequently lifts and handles items weighing up to 40 pounds, or occasionally heavier items, with the assistance of other workers. Work requires sitting for extended periods of time, and frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping. May work from ladders and platforms, at varying heights.

Working Condition: Work is normally performed in well lighted, humidity and temperature controlled shops. There are dangers from high voltage electrical shock, RF energy, radiation exposure and contamination, burns from soldering irons, high-pressure air and high-pressure hydraulics. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, or bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. May use safety equipment for extended periods such as protective ear devices, eye protection, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing.
