Summary


This position is located in the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), Facilities Operations and Services Division (FOSD), Facilities Operations Group (FOG), Pentagon Shops. The incumbent serves as a Electronics Mechanic (Fire Alarm). Work centers around maintenance, repair, and modification of a central fire alarm system (SIMPLEX) and Big Voice compromised of various types of signaling equipment.


Duties

This is a Direct Hire Public Notice, under this recruitment, applications will be accepted for each location and/or installation identified in this Public Notice and selections are made for vacancies as they occur. This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 1109 of FY 2020 NDAA; P.L. 116-92 and Section 9905 of Title 5, U.S.C.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Responsible for preventative maintenance, repairing, analyzing, configuring, testing, and troubleshooting a highly complex Fire Alarm system (SIMPLEX).
  • Respond to requests about specific and immediate Fire Alarm systems problems relating to system controls and component failure.
  • Ensure that the latest applications are applied to avoid future operational problems and assists in resolving technical disputes and problems with contractors regarding facilities interconnecting the Pentagon building and Fire Alarm systems.
  • Perform diagnostic activities to assess the overall system operations.
  • Must be proficient in printed circuit board repair at the component level, including knowledge of operating principles of transformers, diodes, capacitors, relays, Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs), transistors, microprocessors, and integrated circuits.
  • Repairs, replaces, installs, and modifies fire detection and suppression systems, smoke and heat detection devices, and all indicating and activation devices in everyday use.

You may qualify at the WG 12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in full range of Electrician tasks including assisting with the installation of new electrical circuits, walls plugs, electric hot water heaters and circuits; planning, laying out work according to rough sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions; assisting with the rewiring of facilities; and using tools and test equipment. I work under general supervision of a work leader or journey-level Electrician who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed.

You may qualify at the WG 11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 09 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in assisting with the installation of new electrical circuits, walls plugs, electric hot water heaters and circuits; planning, laying out work according to rough sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions; assisting with the rewiring of facilities; and using tools and test equipment. I work under general supervision of a work leader or journey-level Electrician who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed.

You may qualify at the WG 10 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 9 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in a full range of the ability in performing common Electrician tasks which involves installing wiring, conduit, fixtures, lighting ballast, transformers and other electrical devices to insure proper and safe operation of electrical systems under normal supervision and performing independently in some cases.

You may qualify at the WG 8 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 7 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in a full range of the ability in assisting in performing common Electrician tasks which involves assisting in performing electrical maintenance, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical systems under close supervision of a work leader or supervisor.

You may qualify at the WG 5 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 4 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in assisting with the installation of new electrical circuits, walls plugs, electric hot water heaters and circuits; planning, laying out work according to rough sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions; assisting with the rewiring of facilities; and using tools and test equipment. I work under general supervision of a work leader or journey-level Electrician who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed.
