Summary

National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world.

This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Duties

  • Develops, plans, and administers programs and activities, setting precedent on overall policies, objectives, time frames and procedures necessary for program accomplishments.
  • Perform inspections for cyclical assessment of buildings, structures, and utility systems.
  • Serve as an Engineering Technician and technical expert to the independently plan, estimate and prepare labor, materials and equipment costs for construction, alteration, modification, maintenance and repair work.
  • Reviews records of expended man-hours, and material costs and compares with estimated costs for projects. Performs a variety of inspections of projects during all phases either on a day-to-day or periodic basis.
  • Perform daily updates and track individual work orders using computerized maintenance management software.

Qualifications

You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized Experience is defined as:
  • Developing and interpreting drawings and blueprints;
  • Developing scopes of work for construction, alteration, modification and repair; and
  • Managing contracts and contractors.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

GS-11 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed higher-level graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. You MUST provide transcripts to validate substitute of education claim.
