Summary

You will serve as a Engineering Technician in the Department of Navy of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE, Cuba.

Duties

  • You will serve as a Senior Engineering Technician in reviewing, assessing and resolving complex and diverse (e.g. multistory, multi-trade, multiple technologies) construction issues, procedures, and practices.
  • You will provide constructability reviews of project plans and specifications prior to contract award for technical soundness, compliance with Navy requirements, and to determine practicability from a construction management standpoint.
  • You will provide technical knowledge of local conditions including availability of construction materials and skilled labor, contractor and subcontractor organizations, and the technical policy and procedures.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Reassignments within the commuting area will be required as the workload is reduced at one site and increased at another.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1.Examines and investigates work requests or orders, sketches, blueprints, and other specifications to ensure accuracy.
2.Participates in design conferences with the high-ranking personnel to explain contents of project scopes, objectives, alternatives, special construction procedures, and environmental regulations and develops plans and specifications.
3. Experience with supporting contracting officers to determine acceptance and payment for contract studies/reports, project designs and programs prepared by various agencies and private contractors.
4.Prepares technical drawings and sketches reflecting construction details and designates other engineering plans, blueprints and sketches required and provides liaison for their preparation and issuance.
5.Provides technical recommendations to the acquisition planning process for categories III and IV repair and construction projects.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
