About the Position:

This position is located at: Department of War Education Activity, DoWEA Americas, Americas Mid-Atlantic District, Antilles High School, Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico.

This is an ARMY JROTC position.

The Army Instructor will receive Minimum Instructor Pay (MIP).Enlisted Instructor (E-9) will be placed at a Grade Level 10. Enlisted Instructor (E-8 or below) will be placed at a Grade Level 09.

Again, the Army Instructor will receive Minimum Instructor Pay (MIP).

Duties

  • Conduct first and/or second level military science courses
  • Ensure proper wearing of uniforms and equipment
  • Conduct uniform and equipment inspections
  • Teach all leadership classes
  • Write and conduct drill competitions
  • Create and maintain all organizational files
  • Prepares Master schedule for JROTC department
  • Attends summer camp when necessary
  • Maintains inventory of uniforms and equipment for the program

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • Two year trial period may be required.
  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Applicants must be certified to teach ARMY JROTC from respective military/headquarters JROTC service components.
  • Applicants must include a copy of their ARMY JROTC teaching certificate/letter with their applicant package.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Minimum Education Requirement: Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) - Army JROTC NCO Instructors hold a current certification to teach JROTC from United States Army (USA) headquarters services department.

AND

Specialized Experience: Must meet one of the following pathways outlined in 10 USC 2031: Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps:

A. Retired Army Non-Commissioned Officer or Army Warrant Officer whose qualifications are approved by the Secretary and the institution concerned and who request such employment;

B. Army Non-Commissioned Officer or Army Warrant Officer who are separated with an honorable discharge within the past 5 years with at least 8 years of service and are approved by the Secretary and the institution concerned and who request such employment; or

C. Army Non-Commissioned Officer or Army Warrant Officer who are active participating members of the selected reserve at the time of application, for purposes of section 101(d) of this title, and have not yet reached retirement eligibility and are approved by the Secretary and the institution concerned and who request such employment.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Foreign Degrees and Course Work from Non-accredited Institutions. Foreign Degrees and Course Work from Non-accredited Institutions. Credits or degrees earned from a foreign college or university must be evaluated prior to acceptance. Three evaluation procedures are acceptable:

a. The work must be evaluated and interpreted by a current member of National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). This website provides a list of current organizations who can perform your evaluation. You must select and work directly with one of these organizations.

b. The foreign institution that awarded the degree is on a list endorsed by a regionally accredited university or on a list endorsed by a state department of education for the purpose of teacher certification in that state (this procedure will require an English translation of the transcript and a copy of the document awarding the degree, together with an authenticated list produced by an American university or a state department of education); and

c. The work may be evaluated by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university and declared the equivalent of similar undergraduate or graduate work in a U.S. institution.

Graduates of non-accredited institutions may have their undergraduate work validated by admittance to graduate school and completion of a minimum of 5 SH of credit in a regionally accredited graduate college.Failure to provide all the required information as stated in the vacancy announcement may result in an ineligible rating or may affect the overall rating.

Antilles High School (AHS) is a nonsectarian, co-educational high school (grades 9-12) under the jurisdiction of the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA). The school provides a secondary education for the dependent children of US military personnel (active and reserve), active National Guard, and transferable Federal Employees. The school is located in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, which is approximately eight miles south of San Juan. Antilles High School was founded in 1954.
