Specialized Experience:
Specialized experience for the GS-12
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: reviewing and analyzing manifests, inspection and disposal records, test results, and/or related environmental documents to identify potential problems; analyzing numerous federal, state and local laws to provide advice to leadership on various media such as clean air, water resources management, hazardous and toxic materials, and/or resource conservation and recovery; reviewing projects to identify potential environmental issues within the context of regulatory and/or permit requirements; preparing environmental documentation for projects to remain in compliance with environmental regulations and orders; and assisting with environmental inspections, surveys, and/or studies to prepare applicable reports for leadership. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-12 level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
