Summary

This position serves as the Electrical supervisor at the Cheyenne VA Healthcare System, including Outpatient Clinics and CBOC's. The major function of this position includes exercising full supervisory responsibility for control over work operations involving four subordinate workers and assisting with work during emergencies and tight timeline requirements. The incumbent would be responsible for oversee two low voltage electronic techs and two electricians.

Duties

Duties include:

  • Installing, modifying, repairing, performing preventative maintenance, replacing units, troubleshooting (tracing and locating defects), loading and testing new and existing electrical systems, circuits, motors, low voltage data systems, nurse call, cold blue, wander guard, pulling cable, terminating all electrical and electronic wire types, fixtures, controls, high voltage automatic transfer switches,
    emergency generators and engines (diesel and others).
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and at times may have to support Biomed with cabling install, terminating cable, overseeing contractors, electrical equipment that does not follow under biomed or maintenance functions.
  • Plans, assigns, accomplishes and coordinates maintenance and repair work request of the Electrical shop by establishing deadlines and priorities either set by him/herself or by higher level supervisors.
  • Actively works with, as well as supervises, electricians working with general tools of the trade such as hydraulic conduit benders, power wall channel saws, conduit cutters, which operated/long-line cable pulling apparatus, removal and placement of transformers required during the renovation of various power distribution systems located within the Healthcare System.
  • Utilizes work order system to coordinate, assign work orders to electrical staff and document work performed in-house to correct deficiencies identified via the work order system.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the electrical outages that will minimize disruption of delivery of healthcare, maintenance and repair, preventative maintenance (PMs), major and minor improvements of all identified systems, including budgeting, ordering, and monitoring of all supplies and services for same.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • You must hold a current, valid license in the State of Wyoming as a Journeyman or Master Electrician. Documentation must be submitted at time of application to be considered eligible for the position.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Preferred Experience: Supervisor must accomplish the overall effective and economical user of subordinate personnel, equipment, materials, and methods to meet production goals and quality standards. The incumbent is directly responsible for the development and performance for the section.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.


Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Electrical workers at this grade make repairs and installations from ladders,
scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires electrical workers to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Electrical workers frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and, less often, up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms. The work is performed both inside and outside. Electrical workers are sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 9 meters (30 feet) or more; and in close quarters such as manholes, attics, or aboard ships. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.

Education

You must hold a current, valid license in the State of Wyoming as a Journeyman or Master Electrician. Documentation must be submitted at time of application to be considered eligible for the position.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
