Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties (occasionally lifts and carries items weighing more).
- The incumbent is subject to emergency call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and may be required to report to work during off-duty hours, to include weekends and holidays.
- The maximum entry age for positions covered under the special Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) retirement is 37 years old.
- Individuals must be appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit, but previously served in a primary position, may be reinstated.
- This position is designated as a Primary LEO and the work requires frequent, direct contact in the detention of inmates convicted of offenses against the punitive articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
- Regularly-assigned contacts with inmates expose the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentially dangerous situations such as verbal and/or physical attack by the inmate population.
- This position requires the employee to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
- This position requires the employee to undergo screening for tuberculosis upon appointment and an annual re-evaluation.
- Department of Defense Instruction, Number 1325.7 states all confinement facility personnel shall possess a high degree of maturity and emotional stability.
- All confinement facility personnel shall have no civilian felony convictions or court-martial convictions for any offense with a maximum authorized sentence to confinement of over one year.
- Section 639 of Public Law 106-554 requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony.
- IAW The Prison Rape Elimination Act, the MCC may not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates, has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup community conferment facility, juvenile facility, or other institution.
- The incumbent of this position will comply with all provisions of the 15th MP BDE Regulation 190-3, Rules of Conduct and ACC Policy Letter #17, Standards of Conduct.
- This position requires the employee to complete the Army Corrections Command Pre-Service Training program to maintain security and control of inmates, appropriate staff/inmate interaction and understanding the rules of inmate conduct.
- All Army Corrections Command employees are required to take 40 hours of training annually in inmate supervision and security as well as training in their field.
- The incumbent is required to possess and maintain an EPA certification for the handling and control of refrigerants and other Ozone Depleting Substances (OZDs). YOU MUST ATTACH A COPY OF YOUR CERTIFICATION TO THE APPLICATION PACKAGE.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) ~ without more than normal supervision. Troubleshoot, install, repair and maintain commercial or industrial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems or energy monitoring and control systems. Apply a comprehensive principle of electrical control theory. Repair, maintain and service a variety of complete electrical and electronic systems with mechanical, hydraulic and/or pneumatic subsystems and equipment and electronic controls. Interpret electronic, electrical, and mechanical drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete control systems. Independently perform specific procedures and techniques to repair and replace a variety of system parts and components to include circuit cards/boards, transmitters, receivers, hard wiring, controls and connectors. Operate laptop computers, interface devices, and handheld microprocessors, needed to monitor programs trend data, modify, schedule, reset, and analyze problems for variable frequency drive motors and air quality sensors. Read and interpret schematics, engineering drawings, manufacturer's and engineering design's specifications, program architecture, and properly utilize test field equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
This position has been designated as a primary/rigorous and is eligible for Law Enforcement (LEO) retirement coverage under the provisions of title 5 USC 8336(c) and 8412(d) by DoD memorandum dated 9 Jan 2015. The maximum entry age for positions covered under this retirement is 37 years old. Retirement from this position is mandatory at age 57 with 20 years of LEO service. The maximum entry age may be waived under certain circumstances. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit, but previously served in a primary position, MAY be reinstated.

Regularly-assigned contacts with inmates expose the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentially dangerous situations such as verbal and/or physical attack by the inmate population.
- Physical Effort: Installations and repairs are made from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Some parts of systems needing repair are in hard to reach places. Frequent standing,stooping, bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions is required. Frequently lifts carries, and sets up tools equipment, and partsthat weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing more.
- Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. May be required to work in inclement weather and noisy areas. Subject to electricalshocks, burns, gas, smoke, ashes, scalds, dust, sudden temperature changes, cuts, respiratory ailments, refrigerant gases, dirt, grease, bad smelling fumes,uncomfortable heat conditions, strains, scrapes, bruises, infections, and broken bones.
The employee's reporting place of duty is in the Army Corrections Command Complex but outside of the facility walls. Employee spends 70% of their work day withinthe United States Disciplinary Barracks and Trustee Unit performing the duties above. Inmate contact exposes the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentiallydangerous situations such as physical attack or riots by the inmate population.
