Summary

This position is part of the WAPA-RMR-Rocky Mountain Region. As a Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic (Electronic Equipment Craftsman) Craftsman-In-Training, you will maintain, modify, install, repair, program, and test a variety of simple to complex electronic equipment used in these categories: communication, control process computers, and supervisory control systems.

Duties

As a Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, Electronic Equipment Craftsman, Craftsman-In-Training, some of your duties will include:

The Craftsman-in-Training Program is designed to train, appraise, and develop craftsmen as they progress through various stages of an occupation to become fully competent journeymen. The standard length of time in the program for each trainee is two (2) years. The 2-year program consists of four levels, with 6 months at each level. At the Full Performance Level: Electronic Equipment Craftsman Employee will maintain, modify, install, repair, program, and test a variety of simple to complex electronic equipment used in these categories: communication, control process computers, and supervisory control systems. Perform database modification. Develop software test routines for verifying communication settings and operational specifications. Perform work on communications equipment that is used for power system operation and control, relaying, data logging, and indication.

  • Incumbent must successfully complete and pass a physical exam and drug test upon selection, and annually thereafter at Federal expense. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug or drug and alcohol tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
  • Incumbent must have a valid and current State driver's license.
  • Incumbent must meet the required climbing weight of this position which is not to exceed 310 pounds with all required gear and personal weight not to exceed 280 pounds.
  • This position may require rotational shiftwork and regular and recurring overtime. Overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is indoors; however, outdoor activities are frequently encountered. May lift and carry loads over 50 pounds, often in outdoor environments that pose difficult terrain issues. May work in close, restricted quarters. Standing, bending, stooping for long periods of time may be required. May be required to hike, climb, or use other methods to get to remote equipment sites as local terrain and climate conditions require. Must be able to climb communication towers up to 400 feet or as required.

WORK CONDITIONS: Work is done both inside and outdoors in variable weather conditions. Work often requires much driving, some in rugged, isolated areas requiring four-wheel drive, often alone. Work can require considerable travel requiring temporary lodging away from duty station. May be required to travel in a fixed wing aircraft, helicopter, snow mobile or snow cat to work sites.
