The United States Space Force (USSF) at Peterson SFB, Colorado Springs, Colorado is searching for a Electronics Engineer, SYD 85 (NH-0855-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent).
Description:
Come be a part of a fast-paced, fulfilling, and fun team at Space Systems Command in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO. Serve as the Lead Engineer for one of <15> program offices in System Delta 85 (SYD 85), the Space Domain Awareness and Battle Management arm of Space Systems Command (SSC). SYD 85 designs, develops, and delivers mission-critical systems that provide dominant battlespace awareness, advanced battle management, and resilient network capabilities to the warfighter.
As a Lead Engineer, you will be at the forefront of innovation, performing system integration, designing network architectures, and exercising government decision authority. You will oversee program contractors, assess cost, schedule, and performance risk, and mentor junior engineers. This role requires staying current with emerging technologies and advocating for their adoption to keep our nation ahead of its adversaries. Your work could support global ground-based RADARs, advanced optical telescopes, or the data transport systems that form the backbone of the Space Force. Ideal Candidate:
- Professional engineering experience with an ABET-accredited engineering degree.
- Experience in a space-oriented program office or military operational space environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical reviews (e.g., design, discrepancy, and failure reviews).
- Ability to see the big picture from concept to operations, connect system-wide elements, and lead through uncertainty.
- Experience with systems engineering, program-level engineering on a major defense acquisition project and applying appropriate engineering rigor per regulations.
- Technical experience with one or more of the following: ground radar systems, missile defense, software/hardware development, information systems, or mission data networking.
- Active Top Secret security clearance.
- Previous experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS) is desirable.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of professional electronics engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development, execution, and advisory services.
2. Knowledge of development testing and evaluation sufficient to apply experimental theories and new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment.
3. Knowledge of integrated air-vehicles, ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of electronic systems or devices.
4. Knowledge of systems engineering practices and procedures as they pertain to sustainment, modification, logistics, and production management principles, concepts, policies, and systems; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of other engineering disciplines.
5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches, and to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and to use computers and a variety of software programs and databases, gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors.
