Summary

About the Position: This Electronics Technician position is located at White Sands Test Center, Range Operations Dir, Data Support Div, Telemetry Br with duty location of White Sands Missile Range, NM. White Sands Missile Range, NM. The Range provides Army, Navy, Air Force, DoD, and other customers with high quality services for experimentation, test, research, assessment, development, and training in support of the Nation. (merit).

Duties

  • Follow, and/or develop procedures and mission support plans for the operational, configuration, and maintenance of one or more electronic equipment and telemetry systems.
  • Assists in procurement of electronics support equipment for Range Telemetry Systems.
  • Maintain regulatory documents to include calibration, accountability, safety and utilization of test equipment and material.
  • Work directly with field engineers, project engineers, and data analysis personnel, both government and non-government advising on the capabilities and limitations telemetry systems.
  • Serve as a Telemetry Systems Technician applying a knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of the field of electronics
  • Operate modification/subsystem installation to perform systems maintenance for assigned system/systems
  • Assist in the test and evaluation of various prototype telemetry systems and subsystems
  • Document field test findings and results.
  • Make real-time corrections to systems if data is determined to be unacceptable.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate commercial vehicles required by this position in the movement of telemetry mobile vans and tow mobile camera systems.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug Free Federal Workplace Program, the incumbent must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • May require use of protective clothing or equipment as authorized by the WSMR Safety Office.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) experience maintaining and repairing electronic equipment, telemetry systems, subsystems, and components and (2) experience performing diagnostic, tests of telemetry systems, subsystem and/or components for a successful data acquisition. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NJ-02/GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • The U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) is participating in an alternate personnel system known as the Acquisition Demonstration Project (AcqDemo). Among other features, the Demonstration Project replaced GS grade levels with occupational families and pay bands. The band NJ-03 is equal to the former GS-09 Step 01 through GS-11 step 10. ATEC uses salary control points to allow for differentiation in the level of positions within the same broadband. Therefore, the salary for this position will be set no higher than $96,116.00 including locality.
