Duties
Incumbent performs maintenance of the FM Boeing 737-800 and Airbus 330/320 convertible full flight (Level D) simulators. Ensures flight simulator systems are in operationally certified condition. FS liaison for contract maintenance activities, ensuring they are performed to established standards in accordance withl4 CFR Part 60. Performs highly specialized technical expertise associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying and/or evaluating highly complex simulation modeling and flight simulator aerodynamic and avionics systems. Applies broad experience and advanced technical knowledge on flight simulator systems components, disciplines, and integration with multiple flight simulators.
Incumbent performs and processes hardware and software diagnostic tests on flight simulators to ensure proper function or affect repairs and re-verify proper operation of the malfunctioning system. Utilizes vendor documentation (including, but not limited to, blueprints, schematic diagrams. and program flow diagrams) to locate, isolate, and repair or replace malfunctioning components. Uses software utility programs and installed diagnostic equipment in fault detection and isolation. Reviews and documents preventive and corrective maintenance on flight simulator aerodynamic and avionics systems and ensures repair of defective subsystems, assemblies, and circuit cards. Performs all necessary calibrations and/or alignments prior to placing any failed device into service to ensure that the flight simulators continue to operate in accordance within their design specifications. Maintains and tracks night simulator component documentation, catalogs and replacement and/or repairing logistical requirements
Incumbent oversees and performs periodic tests to certify that the FAA Boeing 737-800 and Airbus 330/320 convertible full flight (Level D) simulators perform in accordance with their respective Approval Test Guide and assist the National Simulator Evaluation Team with annual recurrent certification/qualification. Ensures all simulator discrepancies are
documented, evaluated for corrective actions, tracked and completed.
Incumbent provides specialized flight simulator technical expertise for Research, Engineering and Development (R.E&D) projects by supervising and performing hardware and software modifications as directed. Incumbent also ensures currency of the visual database library models and assists in the creation of new models and/or modifications to existing ones to support R.E&D projects. Additionally, the incumbent maintains all system source code documentation in current configurations and performs schematic updates, cataloging new software listings and hardware and software modifications.
Incumbent serves as an independent contributor, a contributing specialist on large work activities, or as a team leader for single or small work activities. May provide formal instruction to other technicians performs highly specialized technical work associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying or evaluating the most complex systems for which the FAA is responsible. Applies broad experience and advanced technical knowledge of assigned disciplines and specialties. Understands how assigned systems, components, and disciplines are integrated with other systems, components, and disciplines.
Incumbent serves as the Deputy Program Manager for Flight Start Capital Investment Program (CIP). This multi-million dollar, ongoing CIP program guarantees the continued modernization of the organization's Airbus and Boeing full motion flight simulators to meet the requirements of complex NAS initiatives for years to come. May be called upon to communicate FAA positions on policies and procedures internally and externally.

Qualifications
To qualify at the FG/GS 13 (FV-I) level, you must demonstrate in your application you possess one (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to FG/GS 12 (FV-H) level. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Specialized Experience includes: Experience in the planning, design, development, and modification of highly complex simulation modeling or avionics systems; Experience with calibration, maintenance, and repair on flight simulators; Experience with data collection, analysis of technical proposals and designs, and calculations.
