Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • As an EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN you will perform the following:
  • Make an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and select from a variety of prescribed protocols considered appropriate under the given circumstances.
  • Conduct a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of the condition and search for medical alert symbols.
  • Recognize, stabilize, and treat a wide variety of medical emergencies, e.g., poison ingestion or inhalation, bites/stings, pediatric patients, heart attacks, Strokes, etc
  • Assist in lifting and carrying the patient out of the ambulance and into the emergency treatment facility.
  • Perform thorough safety and maintenance inspections and minor repairs on vehicles and a variety of medical equipment

  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation may be required
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required, and an annual physical thereafter.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a mandatory pertussis vaccination requirement. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to pertussis vaccinations.
  • This position is inclement weather essential. Designated essential during inclement weather or appropriate emergency conditions, requiring the employee to remain on duty or make every effort to report to duty during periods of inclement weather.
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform.
  • Requires shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays and in other situations.
  • Must possess and maintain current state-issued driver's license.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, up to 45 lbs without any assistance.
  • Training of emergency medical technician (EMT) personnel will be according to the Department of Transportation EMT National Standard curriculum, or its equivalent, and accepted by the National Registry for Emergency medical Technicians (NREMT).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; 2) conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs; 3) providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and/or operating a patient transport vehicle.

Licensure/Certification:

In accordance with AR 40-3 Chapter 13 (4) Training of emergency medical technician (EMT) personnel will be according to the Department of Transportation EMT National Standard curriculum, or its equivalent, and accepted by the National Registry for Emergency medical Technicians (NREMT). EMTs working in prehospital EMS, to include both ground and air ambulance, will possess and maintain current certification through the NREMT commensurate with the requirements of the positions to which currently assigned. Those positions included: emergency medical technician-basic (EMT-B), emergency medical technician-intermediate (EMT-I), and emergency medical technician-paramedic (EMT-P). Newly appointed civilian EMTs who are not NREMT-certified must, as a minimum, possess EMT certification from the State in which the employing MTF is located and any neighboring States(s) in which emergency responses are required. These employees, who do not have the NREMT certification, will be given up to 1 year to obtain national certification. There must be a process for monitoring NREMT status and validating that the NREMT certification remain current.
