- This position requires working an alternate work schedule of Monday through Thursday (or Tuesday through Friday), 10-hour days, 4 days a week.
- This position may require travel (TDY) up to 10% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting with equipment preventative maintenance; OR 2) assisting with field surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) coordinating preventative maintenance and safety of equipment; OR 2) using surveying techniques and guidelines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) coordinating preventative maintenance and safety of equipment; AND 2) using surveying techniques and guidelines; AND 3) Working in a team environment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Specialized Experience for GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using surveying techniques and guidelines; 2) Analyzing and interpreting field data results; AND 3) Using Windows-based data acquisition and editing systems, such as Hypack Software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Using hydrographic surveying techniques and guidelines; 2) Operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of field surveying instruments; AND 3) Coordinating hydrographic survey operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education
Education substitution is allowed at the GS-05 grade level only. Qualifications for the GS-06/07/08/09 grade levels will be determined based on meeting the specialized experience requirements for each grade level as listed above.
