You qualify for the
GS-11 grade level if you possess
one of the following:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the federal service responsible for: Conducting informal environmental compliance audits, analyzing environmental data and evaluating facility operations on a continuous basis to identify and resolve deficiencies such as hazardous waste, water and air management, natural resources, and contaminated site remediation (environmental restoration). -OR-
- Successful completion of a Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position. -OR-
- Successful completion of three full years of higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph. D from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position. -OR-
- Successful completion of an LL.M., from an accredited college or university that is directly related to the work of the position, -OR-
- An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. (Only graduate in excess of first 36 semester hours may be combined with the specialized experience).
MUST provide a copy of transcripts.
NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first two years may be used to qualify for the GS-11 level.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, FLETC requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation as a condition of placement in this position. This review may include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
Physical Demands: Considerable walking, standing, bending, and/or climbing while working in the field or performing inspections. Position may be required to operate equipment and/or wear personal protective equipment (PPE) that is hot, bulky and uncomfortable. The work requires average agility and dexterity. Position will be required to make occasional official trips to satellite training facilities, and occasional travel to DHS headquarters in Washington, DC.
Work Environment: Regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness such as high noise levels, high temperature, humid or wet conditions, irritants, toxic waste, chemicals and fumes.
