Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performs a full range of cleaning duties within patient wards, (bed discharge cleaning, utilizing the Bed Management System), administrative, storage areas, etc.
- Uses various types of approved cleaning materials and techniques to clean a variety of floor, ceiling, and wall surfaces, as well as furnishings and equipment.
- Utilizes approved procedures in the various operations of EMS, as such dusting, mopping, vacuuming, scouring, scrubbing, stripping, polishing, application of floor finish, etc.
- Works from ladders and scaffolds, as needed, to clean light fixtures, walls, etc.
- Operates industrial type equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuum cleaners. Incumbent may also clean specialized areas, such as: Outpatient clinics, Pharmacy areas, urgent care area, Day Surgery, Sterile Processing Supply (SPS) Admin Support Areas. Incumbent will be provided appropriate training to accomplish these additional duties.
- Performs other services and duties, such as, removal of regulated medical and solid waste, storage and distribution of supplies, movement of furniture, carpet cleaning and distribution of clean linen to approved storage areas.
- Responsible for the installation and removal privacy curtains, elementary firefighting, etc. as appropriate and properly instructed.
- Performs all other related tasks as assigned.

Position Description Title/PD#: Environmental Services Technician/PD01488A
Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to climb ladders, walk constantly and sometimes perform light to moderate bending and stooping. During normal day to day operations, incumbent will be required to perform simple grasping, find hand manipulation, reaching above shoulder height. Position routinely requires that individuals operate vehicles, powered equipment and push or pull soiled and clean laundry carts to and from loading docks to various locations within the Fredericksburg HCC.
Working Conditions: Work is normally performed inside where there is ample light, heat and/or ventilation. Temperatures vary from hot in the summer to cold in the winter when traveling between buildings. Incumbent is intermittently exposed to excess humidity, chemicals and solvents, fumes, dust and noise. May perform some duties of position on patient wards, within storage areas on facility grounds, or within sub-basement locations. Incumbent is exposed to possible contagions from the handling of patient personal clothing/effects and in performance of sanitation procedures. Is subject to cuts, scrapes, bumps, bruises, slips, falls and other injuries in the performance of required duties. Also exposed to disagreeable odors in the accomplishment of duties.
