Duties
The incumbent oversees second shift and has direct day-to-day operational control, influence and responsibility over all lead and direct wage grade labor staff for FxHCC. Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Assign staff for duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis;
- Coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the assigned area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities;
- Clean all patient areas and corridor spaces throughout the medical center, operating rooms, and all other areas as assigned;
- Ensure the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules;
- Plan and schedule daily and weekly assignments, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities;
- Train staff to ensure the use of patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, family members, and personnel;
- Provide on-the job training for subordinates and new employees as individual needs dictate;
- Keep subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies;
- Control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit;
- Conduct in-use testing of equipment and/or supplies, providing feedback in regards to their observations;
- Ensure all safety regulations and procedures are observed and may on occasion be required to conduct training classes on specific safety issues;
- Supervise the daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and persons and ensures record keeping is timely and accurate;
- Approve leave requests for subordinates, counseling employees, and recommending disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants;
- Make formal appraisals of subordinates works performance and conduct;
- Inspect assigned areas to assure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives are accomplished in an expedient and timely manner;
- Perform related duties as required.

Physical Requirements: The work performed requires walking, standing, stooping, stretching, and lifting. Physical effort is required when performing housekeeping duties, operating equipment, during training sessions, or in emergency situations. Work is performed in all areas of the medical center.

Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service. HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
Pursuant to VHA Directive 1193.01, VHA health care personnel (HCP) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 subject to such accommodations as required by law (i.e., medical, religious or pregnancy). VHA HCPs do not include remote workers who only infrequently enter VHA locations.
