Summary

This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New England Field Division, Boston, MA.

This position(s) primary purpose is to receive, document, store, and dispose of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division.

As a Evidence Custodian, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Receiving, documents, stores, and disposes of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division.
  • Receiving and filing seized evidence from special agents and diversion investigators.
  • Developing information, identifying interrelation ships, and taking action consistent with evidence control goals.
  • Interpreting and adapting existing guidelines, regulations, and other documents issued by headquarters to a variety of evidence control situations.
  • Creating and maintaining automated records of evidence and vault inventory.
  • Creating and producing bar code labels on all items for chain of custody tracking.

  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement.

Applicants applying for the GS-07 must meet one of the following requirements:

A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-06 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Receiving documents, storing and disposing of property or items listed in inventory; 2) Performing control duties that follow established guidelines; 3) Creating and maintaining automated records of property/inventory and vault inventory; and, 4) Producing and maintaining proper track system.

Applicants applying for the GS-08 must meet one of the following requirements:

A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
