Duties
- Assist with the inspection of historic structures, sites and landscapes to determine physical condition, evaluate and report findings and maintains plans, records, photographs and original field notes,
- Under guidance, prepares detailed drawings for and designs missing portions of structures to be restored; and prepares plans and specifications for conventional restoration and preservation projects.
- Plans, schedules, supervises and directs construction for historic preservation work; prepares and procures appropriate materials, craft specialists, period-appropriate tools, etc.
- Responsible for the documenting results of historic structure investigations, contract specifications, scope of work statements, and providing detailed specifications for carrying out maintenance activities; and writes technical reports.
Physical Demands: The work consists of a mixture of sedentary and physically demanding labor. Digging, lifting, and carrying may occur fairly often.
Working Conditions: The work of this position is performed both in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled office, as well as outdoors under varying and extreme climatic conditions. Work is performed in, on and about deteriorating historic structures, which may be hazardous. Hard hats and safety shoes may be required at times at construction sites, and other personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, respirators, earplugs, safety belts, etc., may be required whenever necessitated by the specific assignment. The incumbent may be subject to soiling from dirt and lubricants, insect and snake bites, cuts, and bruises

You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- TRAVEL: You may be required to travel occasionally. Overnight travel away from home is rare. You may be required to obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume
MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet one of the following minimum qualifications by the close of this announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one full year (52 weeks) of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.
You must include the hours worked per week.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to:
- Providing restoration assistance, repair work, and maintenance of historic structures and landscape elements by controlling damaging agents (i.e., natural, human-caused, etc.);
- Formulating tasks for restoration and preservation projects;
- Following assessment guidelines in evaluating, investigating, and recording data pertaining to historic structures for purpose of determining physical condition, original style and design, and the degree of preservation/restoration required; and/or
- Adhering to all applicable preservation and rehabilitation techniques and guidelines.

EDUCATION: Possess 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position. COMBINATION: Combination of education and experience as described above. Only graduate education beyond the second full-time year can be credited. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered an academic year of graduate study. For example, 6 months of full-time specialized experience (50% of experience required) plus completion of 18 semester hours of graduate education
beyond the second year (45 semester hours; 50% of education requirement) would qualify an applicant for this position. You MUST include a copy of your transcripts with your application.

PARK AND AREA INFORMATION: The Martin Luther King National Historical Park was originally established by the United States congress as the "Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site and Martin Luther King, Jr. Preservation District in Atlanta, Georgia" on October 10th, 1980.The site was established to protect and interpret for the benefit, inspiration, and education of present and future generations, the places where Martin Luther King, Jr. was born, where he lived, worked, worshipped, and is buried. Legislation passed in 2018 included a change in designation from "National Historic Site" to "National Historical Park". The park consists of 39.17 acres, 14.07 of which are federally owned. The Park manages 38 historic structures, most of which were built between 1890 and 1910. Portions of the park are included in the national historic landmark district. The park receives approximately 700,000 to over 1 million national and international visitors annually who a seek to learn about the life experiences and the significance.
TELEWORK: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
