This position is located in the Design Department (PXD) under the direct supervision of the Head of the
Lighting Shop (PXD-LS). This position is responsible for all phases of electrical work in exhibition galleries
and public spaces including installation, repair, inspection, troubleshooting, testing, loading and
maintenance.

Duties for this position include:

• Maintains appearance and working order of lighting fixtures and equipment for exhibitions, the permanent collection, the Sculpture Garden, and special events. Determines correct wire gauge and insulation size for electrical circuits within exhibition galleries. Determines size and placement of sub-distribution panels, electrical boxes, fittings, wires, connections, wiring, conduit (and applicable fittings), relays, fixtures (to include lighting), transformers and other electrical devices. Works with the lighting shop supervisor to fabricate, install, and maintain electrical circuitry for exhibition cases where maintaining established humidity and temperature controls is crucial to ensure the safety of the art enclosed.
• Utilizes building plans, construction blueprints, electrical wiring and ladder diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to conduct electrical and lighting work in exhibition galleries where art is displayed, other public spaces, and for programs and events.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience in the federal or equivalent at GS-9 level, maintaining, fixing, installing, and inspecting lighting equipment in museums.

OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

OR

LL.M., if related

Merit promotion applicants must meet the time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level.
