This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DOD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Removes asbestos containing materials such as vinyl floor tile, cement asbestos board, fire retardant doors, etc.
  • Performs preventive maintenance fixes faucets, valves, and traps, clears stopped drains, checks relief valves, etc.
  • The incumbent of this position will be responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining and repairing fire sprinkler systems, including wet pipe, dry pipe, deluge, and associated parts.
  • The incumbent will interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and other technical material covering electrical, mechanical, and control devices in alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • Respond to emergency calls from the Fire Department concerning Fire Extinguishing Systems.

  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • A Tier 1 non-sensitive low risk background is required throughout the appointment.

  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs in the regular performance of duties.

WG-10 Minimum Qualifications: Skilled in installation, modification, and repair of piping systems and operation of components. Plan and complete the routing and placement of piping systems and operation components. Determine and place the equipment at the proper levels and points in the system also join, seal, test the systems and equipment for proper pressure, leak-free joints, and operation. Have experience performing inspection, preventative maintenance or testing on Fire sprinkler piping systems and related components to ensure proper and safe operation. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion.


WG-8 Minimum Qualifications: Have the ability to assist intasks such as inspection, testing and preventative maintenance for Fire Sprinkler System to include piping systems and related components to ensure proper and safe operation. Work with assistance to lay out, Install, modify, and repair piping systems, also Operate a variety of tools and equipment associated with the pipefitting and plumbing. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Work requires long periods of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in other tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires stretching and reaching into hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts and carries item weighing up 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. Work is frequently performed while on ladders, scaffolding and platforms.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather. The work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to mud, water, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections from unsanitary worksites. Exposed to asbestos bearing material, possibility of electrical shock and falls from high places. Wears protective clothing and equipment to minimize exposure.
Position may be filled at either WG-08 or WG-10 grade level
Applicants must indicate the grade for which grade level they want to be considered. If selected at the lower grade level WG-08, the incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next grade level in the time frame allowed by regulations and upon management's request. Promotion is contingent upon satisfactory completion of required training, regulatory requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the duties. Promotion is not guaranteed or implied.
