Duties

  • Manage fire prevention and protection training programs for the department.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate training for firefighters.
  • Conduct conferences with branch supervisors for the purpose of discussing plans and budgets.

  • This position requires a secret clearance.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
  • This position requires pre-employment physical prior to being placed into this position.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete an annual Job Performance Test.
  • Incumbent must participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • The work requires the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required.
  • This position is designated as Mission essential. Required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief/Commander.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45lbs. in the regular performance of duties
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This position requires you to work 60 hours per week, 120 hours bi-weekly.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Implementing fire protection training programs, such as firefighting, Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous materials, technical rescue, etc.; (2) developing training program budget, to include approving or confirming all training and travel expenditures; (3) evaluating fire prevention training and making recommendations for future training, guidelines and meeting safety standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/ level position in the federal service (GS-10).

To occupy this position, at the time of appointment the incumbent must possess and then continue to maintain the following DoD Firefighter certification levels:
Fire Officer III
Fire Instructor III
Fire Inspector II
HAZMAT Incident Commander
Airport Firefighter

Maximum Entry Age (MEA)
The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37th birthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions.
