Summary

You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT OPERATIONS) in the Fire and Emergency Services of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

Duties

  • You will administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillation (AED) for a patient.
  • You will operate firefighting equipment (e.g., pumps, foam generators, boom, ground sweep nozzles) to control or eliminate fires.
  • You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident.
  • You will position firefighting vehicles in consideration of external factors (e.g., wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft).

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Qualifications

For GS-7: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. NOTE: THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR RESUME TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION.

**This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-7: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, HAZMAT Awareness, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT).These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. For GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
