Summary

You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in the Fire and emergency Services, Commander, Navy Installations Command (N30) of NAVSUPPACT SOUDA BAY Souda Bay, Greece.

Duties

  • You will position firefighting vehicles in consideration of external factors (e.g., wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft).
  • You will inspect hazardous material equipment and supplies for operational readiness.
  • You will perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires.
  • You will survey an incident from a safe location to identify whether hazardous materials have been released.
  • You will establish communication with an ambulance or hospital to relay patient information.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Fighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Technician, Driver/Operator-Pumper, and Driver/Operator-ARFF, National Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification. These certifications must have been awarded by DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirements. Copies of certifications MUST be submitted at the time of application to verify eligibility.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department brigade;
2) Performing rescue operations and driving and operating firefighting vehicles;
3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards;
4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents;
5) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures.

Position requires to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.

Position requires wearing a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast and depth. in accordance with NFPA 1582 and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards.

Requisite Firefighter Certifications for the position are published in DoDI 6055.6 F&ES. Certifications are determined based on application of the published DoDI commensurate with position mission-related duties.

Work Environment:
Employee is exposed to out-of-control fires, HAZMAT spills, or possible explosions.
May suffer from burns, dehydration, and other effects of heat; smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, falling materials, or explosions.
Subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HAZMAT and high noise levels.
Must deal with victims in emergency situations that may be in varying stages of fright, panic, injury, and shock. May be exposed to infectious disease. There may be hazards while operating or riding fire trucks at high speeds under adverse conditions. The employee works outside in all types of weather conditions.

Physical Demands:
The duties of this position are physically demanding and require a physically able employee.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as charged fire hoses, fire extinguishers, equipment, incapacitated persons, and litter patients. Must be able to wear protective clothing, such as firefighter ensembles weighing 50 - 60 pounds. Climbs ladders and works at various heights.
The work requires above average agility and dexterity.
To meet these demands, physical fitness training is required on more than a weekly basis as reflected in department guidance and instruction. Required physical training will be completed during duty hours and on each available shift.
