Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Directs, supervises, and coordinates the activities of the Health & Fitness staff that includes Health Promotion Coordinator (NF-4), Fitness Program Coordinator (NF-4), Fitness Specialists ¿ Level 1 & 2 (NF- 2 &3), Recreation Specialists (NF-2), and Maintenance & Equipment Repair (NA-10). Certified Strength & Conditioning Coaches, Aquatics Fitness & Performance Coaches, Certified Athletic Trainers, Registered Performance Dieticians / Nutritionists, Sports/Performance Psychologists or Certified Mental Performance Consultants, Sleep/Recovery/Performance Optimization Educators, Resiliency and Wellness Specialists, Spiritual and Social Fitness Educators, combative specialists.

Directs the day-to-day operations and administration of the branch by coordinating with the section heads, the Health Promotion Coordinator and the Fitness Program Coordinator. Program responsibilities include maintenance of fitness equipment, cleanliness of facility, staffing facility, providing fitness consultations, support for CFT/PFT training, group exercise, unit PTs, and Health Promotion topics to include physical activity, injury prevention, nutrition education, tobacco use and cessation, and stress management.

Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plans and assigns work, sets priorities, advises employees on program goals and objectives and makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate employees. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, which are clearly communicated through the performance appraisal process. Effectively handles disciplinary and adverse actions. Initiates internal branch personnel actions for recruitment, reassignment, promotions, awards, etc. Interviews and selects employees for vacant positions. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests. Actively supports the EEO Program and Station Safety regulations. Assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Communicates and implements the resource deployment plans. Develops mobile and virtual capabilities for health and fitness resources to include Warrior Athlete / Human Performance on-line and social media capabilities. Updates and modernizes all Health and Fitness resources, equipment, and facilities for modern program delivery, resource management, and infrastructure development. Coordinates with Single Marine Program, Athletics, and Active-Duty Recreation Centers as hubs for life skill development (nutrition & food skills, applied mental skills, spiritual fitness skills), and Engagement with Professionals. Establish local Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience Advisory Board. Oversee group training and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu programs and tournaments.

Provides Education, training, and clinics for Force Fitness Instructors (FFIs), Small Unit Leaders, in collaboration and support of Marine Corps Total Fitness providers such as other Semper Fit Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience service providers, primary prevention programs and other installation resources affiliated with physical, social, spiritual, and mental fitness domains.

Identifies developmental and training needs of staff, providing/arranging for needed development and training. Ensures that subordinate personnel receive requisite training and continuing education to maintain credentials via the appropriate certifying agencies.

Ensures the responsible use of manpower and facilities and establishment of sound business procedures, hours of operation, scheduling of staff, and execution of budget. Works closely with subordinates to ensure facilities and equipment are maintained at a very high level of quality. Monitors the integrity and efficiency of internal controls and standard operating procedures.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Asks questions to determine, verify, and solve problems. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor¿s, or master¿s degree in Human Performance, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Fitness, Health Promotion or related degree is required AND a minimum of 3 years¿ experience within the health/fitness industry.

Maintain a Certification in Strength and Conditioning from a nationally accredited organization such as Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC) from the CSCCa or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the NSCA.

This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs. independently and objects over 45 lbs. with assistance. Currently possess a current CPR, AED, and First Aid certificate from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or have the ability to obtain one within 2 weeks of employment.
