Duties
LEVEL 3 DUTIES: Provides professional fitness training to authorized patrons to include: Active Duty, Retirees, Family Members and Department of Defense (DoD) Civilian employees at a large command. Organizes and conducts the full range of physical fitness assessments to include but not limited to: screening and risk stratification, measurement and evaluation of an individual's aerobic capacity, body fat percentage, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, blood pressure, and functional movement screens. Serves as an expert which works with populations deemed to be healthy and special populations consisting of; clients currently under a physician's care or those who have a medical referral. Level 3 trainers are expected to work with individuals with physical, emotional, or cognitive disabilities. Provides individualized and group exercise plans.
Provides instruction and consultation on proper exercise techniques to individuals and groups, and implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive fitness program to improve aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, flexibility, and functional movement. Instructs patrons in proper use of a wide range of exercise equipment while training, and how to self-monitor progress either verbally or by composing written instructions for use of equipment, safety and well-being. Coordinates with and maintains schedules for command representatives to develop and implement physical fitness programming for Active Duty military personnel.
Provides personal training services to a varied population regarding age, medical status, and physical capabilities. Be able to adapt physical fitness assessments and exercise programs based on these variables.
May serve as subject matter expert in inclusive fitness programming for wounded, ill and injured Marines, retirees and civilian personnel who have a chronic long-term disability or illness.
Researches training programs that reflect industry best practices and compliance with Marine Corps policies and regulations, to include conferences and workshops on changing technology. Researches, and benchmarks emerging trends in the physical fitness industry and observes and reports on potential impacts on the Marine Corps. Reports on performance of programs to higher authority.
May register patrons, collect exercise fees, and maintain attendance and appropriate accounting records. Assists in cleaning and maintaining exercise equipment in proper condition.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.
Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

EVALUATIONS:
Qualifications
LEVEL 3: Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field from an accredited university. Possess a current accredited advance level personal training certification from an accredited fitness organization from ACE, NSCA, or ASCM required. An accredited personal training specialization such as USAW Level 1 Coach and NSCA TSAC youth, senior, post-rehab, etc. recommended. These certifications must be kept current throughout employment. Must be certified in First Aid/AED/CPR from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Able to demonstrate knowledge of and skill to administer health screenings, fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, progressive individual fitness plans and proper exercise techniques. Skill to work with patrons with risk factors and or who may have been referred to by a physician. Knowledge of established exercise physiology principles, concepts and techniques to plan and conduct fitness testing, interpret results and develop appropriate and effective fitness plans.
