Summary

This position is located in the Food Court Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. The incumbent performs a wide variety of work assignments during various shifts in support of the club operations.

Duties

  • Provides customer service to patrons.
  • Accepts food orders from patrons and may serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Takes payments and finalizes order. Uses Point of Sale system and/or cash registers to finalize sales which involves credit card and cash transactions.
  • Communicates effectively and knowledgably with customers in regards to products being sold.
  • Prepares a limited variety of short order fast food items such as sandwiches, pizzas, salads, etc.
  • Prepares/slices meats, cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and other vegetables for sandwiches, salads and pizzas.
  • Removes perishable foods from the freezer for daily activities.
  • Ensures beverage coolers are stocked.
  • Makes coffee in large urns according to the number of servings desired.
  • Operates espresso machine and blenders to make a variety of coffee and cold frozen drinks.
  • Sets up food service counters, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food, including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter and beverages.
  • Ensures that tables/work surfaces are promptly cleared and cleaned.
  • Cleans other work areas to include walls, floors, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Takes delivery of supplies and ensures proper storage of shipments after delivery. May unload food from trucks and move heavy garbage cans.
  • Provides assistance to cooks in the food preparation area by weighing, measuring and assembling ingredients according to standardized recipes.
  • Spot checks the guest checks to insure that the information recorded is correct.
  • Coordinates food and beverage needs for special events, not limited to preparing and serving food and cleaning work areas.
  • Follows all safety, security, and good housekeeping rules.
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

Conditions of employment

  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's certificate within 60 days of hire.
  • Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds, occasionally lifting and carrying up to 45 pounds.
  • May be exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when walk in refrigerators or freezing units.
  • Must successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries or equivalent background investigation (T1/NACI).

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Knowledge and skill to perform tasks involving several procedures and be able to concentrate on work assignments despite interruptions and distractions.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • A working knowledge of sanitation standards is required as well as knowledge of procedures to prevent contamination.
  • Knowledge of basic food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures.
  • Incumbent needs a thorough understanding of the routine methods and procedures used in all functional areas of the food service operation
  • Skill to train lower grade workers in such methods and procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials.
  • Ability to apportion, weigh, and measure foods properly and to use electrical appliances, grills, stoves, ovens, and other common kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Ability to operate a cash register or point of sale system
  • Ability to independently carry out tasks in the food operation
