Duties
Duties & Responsibilities:
(1) Inspects, tests, and performs major maintenance on mobile fuels distribution system(s) to issue and defuel both aviation and ground fuels. Additionally performs preventive maintenance on fuel systems and components. Inspects fuel tanks and vents for proper ventilation. Performs ground resistance tests and pressure checks system to identify leaks. Checks pumps for unusual noise, vibration, and proper operation and performs major repairs. Performs hydrostatic tests on hoses. Tests and calibrates fuel flow meters and checks manual and diaphragm valves for proper operation. Conducts diagnostic checks on sensors, alarm components, and emergency shutoffs. Inspects entire pumping system and associated components to detect possible explosive and toxic hazards and system deficiencies. Maintains records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs, as required.
(2) Performs all phases of mobile fueling systems component maintenance including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, major/minor repair, and modification. Troubleshoots, removes, installs, repairs and/or replaces component parts of fuel systems to correct malfunctions of fueling systems and sub-systems. Performs modification of systems in accordance with applicable manuals, technical publications, and manufacturer's specifications. Lubricates valves and pumps; replaces gaskets and seals; corrects pumping equipment misalignment; cleans strainers and filters; services filter separators and checks meters for correct delivery and calibration. Performs organizational and intermediate level repair of tanks, support, and testing equipment. Cleans and purges equipment. Disassembles units and examines component parts for evidence of scratches, wear, cracks, pits, or breaks. Measures, cuts, threads, joins, and fits piping as required to perform system modification or to repair/replace system components.
(3) Performs major and minor maintenance on fuel servicing vehicle pumping systems. Inspects refueling/hydrant servicing units. Replaces hoses, filter separator elements, o-rings and gaskets. Troubleshoots and repairs pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and fuel sensing systems and components. Diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, test equipment, voltmeters, ohmmeters and pressure gauges in order to determine the exact nature or extent of repairs or adjustments necessary to complete work. Removes and disassembles major systems/subsystems on fuels vehicles. Makes major and minor repairs, overhauls or makes modifications in accordance with the proper procedures and specifications. Selects appropriate repair technique. Plans the sequence of repair tasks IAW applicable guidance. Removes, repairs, adjusts and installs pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and fuel sensing components.
(4) Troubleshoots and repairs problems in the electrical components of mobile fueling systems. Performs electrical inspection of electro-mechanical components. Uses multimeter to check system continuity and identify major/minor system problems. Replaces burned out fuses. Diagnoses, repairs, and adjusts electrical components such as electrical controls, motors, and other devices using electrical measuring equipment (e.g., voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters). Uses ohmmeter or megger instrument to test static ground throughout system. Installs and performs pressure tests for operation of new, repaired, and modified components, valves, and controls. Performs inspection, maintenance, and repairs on all controls, switches, and connecting and ground cables.
(5) May perform a variety of Fuel Distribution System Worker responsibilities described in PD 80939000, as required, in addition to performing the paramount responsibilities relating to Fuel Distribution System Mechanic
(6) Utilizes safety practices and procedures in following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment (i.e., foot, eye, breathing, and ear protective gear) and clothing (i.e., cotton). Polices grounds, buildings, and pits to maintain area in accordance with fire prevention and security directives.
(7) Performs other as duties as assigned.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training demonstrating knowledge of hydraulics, fluids, gases and mechanics as applied to fuel systems and components repair techniques. Experience using tools and equipment associated with the trade and reading and interpreting directions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least Eighteen (18) months experience or training operating, maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and overhauling fuel systems and components. Experience or training initiating and controlling the movement and storage of fuel supplies by operating high pressure systems with a series of terminals connected by cross-country pipelines or multi-fuel storage and distribution facilities connected by a network of internal pipelines.
