Summary

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, Carlsbad Field Office, CARLSBAD, NEW MEXICO.

This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority and is open to U.S. citizens and nationals who meet all eligibility requirements, including permanent and exclusive residency within the defined vicinity of the field unit as described in this announcement. Duties

  • This position serves as an Administrative Support Assistant in the Carlsbad Field Office withing the Bureau of Land Management.
  • This position performs a full range of administrative support functions, as well as standardized and non-standardized clerical assignments.
  • Clerical support to include: Customer Service, Property Procurement, Collections, Travel, Timekeeping, and Payroll.
  • Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is: 75 miles from the Carlsbad Field Office, located at 520 E. Greene Street Carlsbad, New Mexico 88220-6292.

To qualify for the GS-06:

You must possess at least one or more years of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. This experience may include all of the following:

  • Independently preparing general correspondence, entering time and attendance records in an automated payroll system
  • Providing assistance in the completion of records review, inventories, and dispositions in accordance with records schedule
  • Broad working knowledge of the functions related to budget and finance, natural resources, travel, timekeeping/payroll, correspondence, records, collections, and public contact.

To qualify for the GS-07:

You must possess at least one or more years of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. This experience may include all of the following:
  • Performing complex administrative support with general correspondence, entering time and attendance records into an automated payroll system
  • Advising in the completion of records review, inventories, and dispositions in accordance with records schedule
  • Ability to perform independent judgement to the following functions in budget and finance, natural resources, travel, timekeeping/payroll, correspondence, records, collections, and public contact.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
