Family Advocacy Officer (FAO), 61 MDS

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Los Angeles AFB, El Segundo, CA is searching for a Family Advocacy Officer (FAO) to support 61 MDS (NH-0185-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).

Description:
At Space Base Delta 3, the 61st Medical Squadron provides comprehensive medical and psychological support to the guardians, airmen, military families, and civilian personnel driving the United States Space Force and Department of the Air Force mission.

As the Family Advocacy Officer (FAO), you will serve as the principal advisor, clinical director, and strategic leader of the installation's Family Advocacy Program (FAP). You will steer prevention, clinical intervention, multidisciplinary team leadership, and executive community outreach across one of the nation's most dynamic defense installations.

Key Duties:
- Drive total program effectiveness, resource integration, and compliance with Department of Defense, Air Force, and federal statutory standards.
- Represent the Family Advocacy Program directly to SBD 3 Wing Leadership, Medical Group Commanders, Squadron Leadership, and Headquarters Air Force Behavioral Health directors.
- Cultivate enduring partnerships with base agencies (Chapel, Military & Family Readiness, Security Forces, OSI, Legal), DoD behavioral health programs, and local civilian healthcare and child/family welfare systems in Southern California.
- Directly supervise a multidisciplinary staff consisting of licensed social workers, registered nurses (such as the New Parent Support Program), and clinical support specialists.
- Provide administrative direction, clinical case consultation, performance evaluations, professional development plans, and guidance on operational directives.
- Carry professional responsibility for complex cases spanning the full continuum of care-from primary prevention and crisis mitigation to intensive outpatient psychotherapy and closure.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Professional knowledge of social work practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems.
2. Knowledge of the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to perform program planning and develop and maintain public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies.
3. Knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families and the varied resources needed to treat them.
4. Ability to evaluate and determine best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services.
5. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
6. Ability to supervise, plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of military and civilian personnel.

Conditions of employment

• Must be a U.S Citizen.
• PCS and Incentives funding is available and may be offered.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.
• Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
• May be required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
• May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
• This position is not eligible for telework.
• Requires a master’s degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
• At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0185 occupational series must be met.
• Must have the following qualifications IAW DOD directive:  (a)  Must possess current unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
• (b)  Two years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse.  Practice will require clinical privileges at the host MTF.  Must maintain independent active clinical privileges for the duration of employment.
• (c)  Must have practiced as an independent licensed clinical social worker within past two years.
• (d)  Government civilian providers must meet all applicable credentialing requirements IAW military treatment facility guidelines and be fully qualified to perform within the scope of their practice.
• (e)  Must possess and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children".
• Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): 5 days a year.
