This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity(s) for this position is:75 miles from Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery, 8606 West St Bernard Hwy, Chalmette, LA 70043 OR 75 miles from Barataria Preserve, 6588 Barataria Boulevard, Marrero, LA 70072. Physical Demands: This position works in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching and stooping. The incumbent often works on top of and under equipment in cramped or awkward positions, and performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting.
The incumbent frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools.
The incumbent often lifts and moves heavier items with assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, etc.
Working Conditions: This position works both inside and outside. Inside work is performed in crowded conditions. When working inside, the incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures and noise that is difficult to talk above. When working outside, the incumbent is exposed to bad weather, and often works in rain, mud, snow and cold. The incumbent is exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, rain, snow, cold, and fumes and from working on hard damp floors or ground. The incumbent works on parts and systems, which are dirty, oily and greasy, and is
exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains white repairing, positioning and moving equipment and components. The incumbent is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from solvents, fluids, and lubricants.
