To qualify at the GS-08 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Examples of specialized experience include: developing, directing and administering a thorough and comprehensive fire fighting and fire prevention program; maintaining a variety of training and qualifications controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; rescue operations; detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; operation of fire communications equipment; developing, managing, controlling hazardous materials incidents response programs; developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention, or supervising, controlling and directing a fire station.
This position is designated as a key position. The position is clearly in the firefighter mission and requires a background in firefighting. Requires a valid State Class B operator license. There is a maximum age restriction for this position (37).
This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard) equivalent certifications: (Please note: All certifications must be uploaded at time of application.)
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Employee is required to be certified at the DoD Firefighter Certification Level as minimum:
Fire Firefighter I & II
Fire Instructor I
Fire Inspector I
Driver Operator Pumper
Hazardous Materials operations
Hazardous Material Awareness
National Registry (NREMT) or State Emerrgency Medical Technician These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
