Duties

  • Conduct inspections of construction sites during various phases of construction and upon completion; recommends changes and additions to ensure compliance with the fire prevention/protection requirements
  • Conduct physical inspections of large, complex, and highly fire prone post and range facilities including mission related facilities.
  • Provide fire prevention training, lectures and demonstration during special events such as fire prevention week, spring cleanup and holiday events, etc.
  • Review work requests involving alteration and extension of existing facilities; recommends changes and additions to ensure compliance with fire prevention requirements.

  • Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD 6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • This position covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Control Program and is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential and is required to report to work or remain at work to support mission operations.
  • This position requires to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position requires successfully completing an annual Job Performance test.
  • This position requires participating in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights
  • Positions requiring the incumbent to drive a military/GSA vehicle.  An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required. Do you understand these requirements?
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent will be required to work 60 hours per week (120 hours per pay period) which includes one 24-hour shift and may include working nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position may require the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience providing training in fire protection and prevention to include detection, reduction, and/or elimination of potential fire hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor, IHAZMAT Awareness, Airport Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician - Basic certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M
