You qualify at the GS-09 grade level if you possess one of the following:
- One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in Federal service, that demonstrates the ability to maintaining and controlling the records of receipt, storage, issue, transfer, surveys, physical inventory and similar transactions with respect to firearms, ammunition, and supplies; determining prices and sources, preparing requisitions, tracking all materials received and placing into inventory, defining stock levels, and frequency of reordering; conflict/stress management; implementing and overseeing security procedures and writing directives and security and control guidance recommendations as needed to ensure full accountability for weapons and ammunition.; OR
- A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR
- A combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.
NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify for the GS-09 level.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, the FLETC requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for Suitability/Fitness as a condition of placement in this Non-Sensitive position. This review may include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.
The work is basically sedentary but may require some travel within the United States. However, the large volume of work with the pressure of deadlines creates stressful situations. Position must be capable of carrying documents, equipment, and peripherals sometimes weighing up to 60 pounds; must be capable of standing up to three hours; and must possess a valid driver's license. The position must move, replace, and carry ammunition to and from the storage bunkers in order to complete inventories and store incoming supplies. As new inventory is added, the position must also move weapons, equipment and supplies among several storage areas.
The work is performed mostly in an office/classroom setting, except for occasional field trips to assist with law enforcement training sessions and workshops. The position also performs work and ensures that contractors are complying with policies and procedures, in indoor/outdoor firing ranges. The work typically involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions in such. However, the position may also be required to wear protective gear when exposed to hazardous explosive materials.
