In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves:1) experience using firefighting and fire prevention techniques and methods such as performing search and rescue, operating hose lines and performing ventilation; 2) experience with the use of firefighting equipment to include driving and operating a full range of emergency services apparatus such as pumpers and aerial trucks; and 3) experience performing hazard assessment and/or conducting fire prevention inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires you to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense, International Fire Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) equivalent certifications:

-EMT - Basic or higher level issued by the State of Virginia or National Registry. (You MUST submit a copy of your certification.)
