Duties
- Set up assigned stations on patient tray line for regular and therapeutic diets.
- Provide patients with basic information about modified diets, such as explaining certain food limitations or substitutions on specific diets, e.g., low sodium and diabetic diets.
- Load and deliver food carts to inpatient units and return carts to kitchen after meals. May be assigned cashier/checker duties.
- Follow detailed recipes from dieticians or supervisor to assemble, measure, weigh, and mix ingredients for basic formulas and other supplemental feedings.
- Assist in preparing an entire meal requiring preparation of a full range of simple cooking that requires little or no processing such as pancakes, sausages, gelatin, instant mashed potatoes, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh vegetables.
- Operate, maintain, and clean tools, equipment, and work area. Wash dishes, pots, pans, coffee urns, glasses, and flatware. Operate a mechanical dishwasher. Unload, clean, and sanitize food carts, utility carts, dish dispensers, and racks.
- Perform heavy duty cleaning tasks throughout areas including walk-in refrigerators, freezers, walls, and light fixtures. Sweep, mop, and wax floors. Dispose of food waste and trash.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the common duties of a Food Service Worker. Ability to interpret basic instructions to assemble patient food trays. Ability to precisely measure, weigh, and blend correct amounts of ingredients required from recipes. Ability to conduct basic food preparation to include grilling, frying, and microwaving. Ability to operate a Point of Sale cash register system and give correct change. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Physical Effort: Performs work requiring moderate to heavy physical effort. Employee is subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Employee lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Pushes carts weighing 400-500 pounds. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment.
- Working Conditions: Work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been spilled. Employee is regularly exposed to steam, fumes, odors, hot grease, liquids and foods, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezers.
