Duties

  • The food service worker serves as a food service provider helping in the preparation, presentation and the serving or delivery of light food items offered for sale to patrons.
  • Works behind the counter and sets up and/or replenishes food and hot/cold drink and specialty items, and the associated condiments, for a food service/snack bar operation.
  • Prepares food displays in counter cases and other display units. Greets customers as they arrive at the service counter and takes orders.
  • Receives guest orders, answers customer questions about offered food and drink items, records sales, receives cash/credit payment, and provides the correct change.
  • Performs, a variety of duties incident to the maintenance, cleanliness, and sanitation of the area to which assigned.

  • Physical Effort: Must be able to lift or move objects up to 20 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.
  • Work schedule may be irregular. The incumbent may be required to work, nights, weekends, holidays and/or special events, varying or rotating shifts.
  • An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with AR215-3, chapter 2, is required.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements:

Experience or training that indicates sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position consistent with acceptable practices of the trade including but not limited to:

1. Ability to work without more than normal supervision.
2. Ability to keep things neat, clean, and in order.
3. Possess basic food preparation and handling techniques.
4. Ability to interpret verbal and written instructions.
5. Knowledge of basic sanitation principles.
6. Ability to use and maintain kitchen tools and equipment.
7. Must have knowledge of basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals in order to takes orders and provide change; and determine the number of portions required.

HIGHLY PREFERRED
Are those candidates that possess both the minimum qualifications above and:
  • Previously or currently possess a ServeSafe Certificate or its equivalent in food preparation and handling.
  • Possess skills in communicating and dealing with guests.

PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
  • FWS Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position.
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
  • Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.

  • Incentives will not be paid.
Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
